Welcome to

Stephen Swinburne's Family History

Name: Old English: habitational name from Swinburne in Northumberland, named from Old English swin ‘swine’, ‘wild boar’ + burna ‘stream’. Originating in Northumberland. The Swin Burn is a stream rising at Carrycoats Moor and flowing through the township of East or Little Swinburn.

Throughout, my research, I have noted that my name has either lost or gained the last letter, making it either Swinburn or Swinburne depending on who wrote it down. Plus over the years, it also gains or loses other letters changing the name of Swinburne completely.

Currently ALL the Swinburnes I have associated with my family have come from the North East Area of England Northumberland/Cumbria Etc.

Grandparents names associated with my family are:- Davison (Paternal Grandmother), Colbran (Maternal Grandmother), Cox (Maternal Grandfather).

Most of the information used to create my tree was put together by my Late Sister; Iris, it is with deep regret that she is not alive to see how much further the research into all the families links has gone.

THIS WEBSITE IS CURRENTLY BEING RE-WRITTEN AND CHANGED SO MY APOLOGIES IF YOU HAVE FOUND THIS WEBSITE AND CANNOT FIND ANYTHING USEFUL, BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME, AS KEVIN COSTNER MIGHT SAY!

I also operate a Facebook Page as Swinburne Family Tree
